The traditional ruler of the Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Salman Olátúnjí Aweda, has been kidnapped by suspected terrorists in the early hours of Saturday.
Reports indicate that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N400 million for his release.
Eyewitnesses said more than 10 armed men invaded the monarch’s residence around midnight, forcibly gained entry, and abducted him along with another individual present in the house.

It was gathered that both victims were initially taken into the bush, but the second abductee was later tied to a tree and abandoned after reportedly telling the attackers he could not continue walking barefoot and challenging them to kill him if they wished. The gunmen then proceeded with the monarch.
Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, visited the community on Saturday to express sympathy and reassure residents that efforts were underway to secure the monarch’s release.
He said security agencies, in collaboration with forest guards and local vigilantes, have intensified search operations in surrounding areas to rescue the abducted ruler safely.
The incident has heightened fear among residents, with concerns growing over a possible resurgence of insecurity in Kwara South.
