The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the media to uphold truth, fairness, and professionalism, stressing its crucial role in fostering a just and well-informed society.

He made the appeal during the inauguration of a media gallery set up in honour of the late journalist, Alhaji Sirajo Dalhatu Sifawa, by the Sokoto Professionals Network in Sokoto.

Represented by the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, the Sultan urged journalists to strictly observe ethical standards and resist any influence that could undermine their integrity.

He described the media as a cornerstone of nation-building, encouraging practitioners to prioritise accuracy, accountability, and the public interest in their work.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Sokoto Professionals Network’s Board of Trustees, Engr. Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, said Sifawa contributed greatly to enhancing the organisation’s visibility and credibility through his commitment.

He added that an appeal fund had been launched to support the late journalist’s family, revealing that close to one million naira had already been raised, while calling for further donations.

Other dignitaries at the event included Yusuf Dingyadi and Malam Kabiru Assada.

Sifawa passed away on January 14, 2026, after a brief illness. Until his death, he served as News Editor at Rima Television and Director of Publicity and Stakeholders Relations at the Sokoto Professionals Network.
