A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has said that the emerging political understanding between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso reflects efforts to build national consensus ahead of future elections.

Ulasi noted that both politicians wield significant influence in their respective regions and suggested that their cooperation could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, he said the “Peter Obi–Kwankwaso effect” represents an attempt to build bridges across the country.

According to him, Kwankwaso is a strong political figure in the North, just as Peter Obi holds considerable influence in the South.

He said that if, by God’s grace, both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso come together and one of them eventually becomes president—as many hope—then it would align with what he described as an informal political understanding that power should rotate between the North and South. He noted that the North, under former President Muhammadu Buhari, had completed eight years, leaving about four more years for the South to complete its tenure.

Ulasi added that the idea of a Peter Obi–Kwankwaso partnership could develop into a strong and influential political arrangement, which, if successful, would usher in a new era of development and progress for Nigeria, stressing that their group is backing Peter Obi.

He further claimed that, based on current political developments in the country, Peter Obi has more than a 60 percent chance of becoming Nigeria’s president.
