President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of Joseph Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The request was read on Tuesday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and conveyed through a letter addressed to the upper chamber.
Invoking Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint ministers subject to Senate approval, Tinubu urged lawmakers to give the nomination prompt consideration.
The President also sought confirmation for two additional nominees: Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State and Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Reports indicate that Tegbe was nominated last week as Minister of Power.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the nomination has been formally forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections. Like Adelabu, Tegbe also hails from Oyo State.
He is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
