IGP SEEKS INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS IN MEETING WITH INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to far-reaching institutional reforms during a strategic engagement with international development partners and diplomatic representatives in Abuja.

The stakeholders’ dialogue, organised at the Force Headquarters in partnership with the Police Reform Secretariat, featured participants from the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, the British High Commission, alongside delegates from Germany, Spain, Slovakia, and the National Institute for Police Studies.

In a statement shared on X by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, the IGP said the police leadership remains focused on building “a modern, professional, intelligence-led and accountable institution rooted in the rule of law, respect for human rights and community partnership.”

Disu explained that the ongoing reform initiatives are designed to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a technology-driven and citizen-oriented institution capable of effectively tackling evolving security threats.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, professionalism, discipline and measurable reforms that align with global best practices while addressing Nigeria’s unique security realities,” the IGP stated.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, highlighted major aspects of the reform agenda, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership training, oversight mechanisms, and initiatives aimed at strengthening community trust.

Ogunsakin emphasised the need for continued collaboration with international partners to boost institutional capacity and ensure successful implementation of policing reforms nationwide.

The dialogue is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to deepen reforms, improve service delivery, and enhance public confidence through strategic partnerships.
