A personal driver employed by a Pentecostal bishop of End-Reconciliation Ministry in Asaba, Delta State, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his employer and fleeing with the bishop’s Toyota Prado Jeep.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released as investigations continue, was apprehended alongside another man in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while allegedly trying to sell the stolen vehicle.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Anambra State Police Command headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the driver allegedly killed the cleric before escaping to Anambra State with the vehicle in an attempt to sell it.

According to the CP, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu carried out a swift intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of both the driver and the suspected buyer.

Orutugu explained that preliminary investigations indicate the driver collaborated with other criminal accomplices who are still on the run to carry out the murder.

He said, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command arrested a domestic staff member allegedly linked to the gruesome killing of his employer, a Pentecostal bishop of End-Reconciliation Ministry in Asaba, Delta State, and the attempted sale of the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor, Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

“The breakthrough came after a swift intelligence-led operation by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, resulting in the arrest of the suspect and another individual believed to have intended to purchase the stolen vehicle.

“Preliminary findings show that the suspect, who served as the bishop’s driver and domestic aide, allegedly conspired with unidentified criminal elements to murder the cleric before fleeing with the victim’s Prado Jeep to Anambra State for sale.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked and intercepted the suspects in Nkpor, recovered the stolen vehicle, and took both men into custody for further interrogation.”

The police commissioner added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang and uncover the full details surrounding the killing.

He also advised residents to be cautious when hiring domestic workers, drivers, and other household staff by properly verifying their identities and monitoring suspicious behaviour.

Orutugu assured the public that the command remains committed to intelligence-based policing and collaboration with other security agencies to protect lives and property across the state.
