COMEDIAN AY RECALLS ALEX EKUBO’S FINAL MOMENTS, SAYS HE WAS SMILING EVEN IN DEATH

Popular Nigerian comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared emotional details about the final moments of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
He disclosed that the actor passed away at a Lagos hospital on Monday, May 11, 2026, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Ekubo was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer in 2024, underwent a transplant, but later suffered complications in 2026 that led to liver failure and his death while on life support.
In an Instagram post, AY, who was present at the hospital, described the experience as deeply painful, noting that Ekubo remained calm and was smiling in his final moments.
He said the loss still felt unreal, reflecting on their shared memories, conversations, and brotherhood within the entertainment industry.
“I was there. I saw you still smiling even in death,” AY wrote, adding that he was still in shock and struggling to process the loss.
He also paid tribute to Ekubo, stating that the late actor would be remembered beyond fame, lights, and cameras.
Meanwhile, Ekubo’s close friend, Godwin Nnadiekwe, revealed that the late actor had already prepared his will before his passing, describing the news as heartbreaking.
