Presidential hopeful on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has said Nigeria requires a competent and unifying leader to tackle the country’s worsening economic and security problems ahead of the 2027 general election.

Hayatu-Deen made the remarks in Abuja on Wednesday after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms for the ADC presidential primary.

Speaking with journalists after the submission, the former banker and economist stressed that Nigeria could no longer afford divisive leadership, insisting that the next president must be defined by competence and national unity.

According to him, Nigerians deserve a leader capable of providing inclusive leadership, understanding the country’s challenges and opportunities, and positioning Nigeria effectively on the global stage.

The pioneer Managing Director of FSB International Bank Plc also decried the country’s worsening socio-economic situation, saying his campaign would focus on practical solutions to insecurity, inflation, poverty and the rising cost of living.

He pledged that, if elected, his administration would prioritise reducing poverty, tackling insecurity, improving access to education and healthcare, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Nigerians.

Hayatu-Deen further called on Nigerians to place greater emphasis on leadership quality rather than ethnic or regional sentiments when choosing the country’s next president. He maintained that anyone seeking the presidency must see themselves first as a Nigerian committed to serving all citizens, regardless of background.

The ADC chieftain also promised to run an issue-based campaign centred on addressing the nation’s pressing economic and governance challenges.
