Residents of Agbado in Lagos State staged a protest on Wednesday at the Ikeja Electric office over a prolonged power outage affecting their community.

The protesters, mostly women, blocked the entrance to the company’s office while demanding the immediate restoration of electricity supply.

According to residents, the blackout has lasted for several weeks, disrupting business activities, affecting households, and increasing the financial strain on those forced to rely on alternative power sources.

Some community members accused the electricity distribution company of failing to provide clear communication on the cause of the outage or a timeline for restoration.

They also alleged that repeated complaints submitted to the company had received little or no response, leading to the decision to stage a protest.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the residents called on relevant authorities to intervene and ensure a lasting solution to the persistent electricity challenges in the area.

In response, Ikeja Electric officials appealed for calm, explaining that the outage was due to technical faults.

The company assured residents that efforts were ongoing to fix the problem and restore stable power supply to the affected communities.

The protest highlights growing frustration among Lagos residents over recurring electricity shortages and their impact on daily life and economic activities.
