The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has disclosed that he nearly lost his position last year during the political tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly and the impeachment saga involving former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila made the revelation while addressing the controversy, explaining that President Tinubu personally confronted him over allegations linking lawmaker Desmond Elliott to the internal crisis in the Lagos Assembly.

According to him, the President invited him to his residence in Abuja and questioned him about Elliott’s alleged involvement in the dispute.

“I was called to the President’s study in his Abuja house during the Obasa impeachment saga, and he asked me if Desmond Elliott was my boy. I said yes,” Gbajabiamila said.

He explained that the President told him intelligence reports suggested Elliott was part of a group allegedly causing problems in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Gbajabiamila said he initially defended the lawmaker but later contacted Elliott to relay the President’s concerns.

“I called Desmond and told him what the President said and advised him to leave the group if he was part of it,” he said.

He added that the matter escalated days later when the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) contacted him, alleging that his name was being mentioned in connection with the political tensions.

Gbajabiamila said he denied any wrongdoing and reiterated that he had already spoken to Elliott, who denied involvement in the alleged group activity.

“I told the DSS DG I had spoken to Desmond and he denied being part of the group,” he said.

The Chief of Staff further stated that he urged Elliott to publicly clarify his position to end the controversy, but said the lawmaker had yet to do so.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Lagos State, where Desmond Elliott is seeking a fourth term in the House of Assembly.
