MBAPPÉ LEADS FRANCE 26-MAN SQUAD FOR WORLD CUP AS DESCHAMPS UNVEILS FINAL SELECTION
Agency Report

Kylian Mbappé will spearhead France’s challenge at the World Cup after head coach Didier Deschamps announced his 26-man squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Deschamps, who guided France to World Cup glory in 2018 and is set to step down after the 2026 edition, named a largely expected squad with few surprises.
Mbappé is expected to captain the side despite a thigh injury that sidelined him during the closing stages of Real Madrid’s La Liga campaign. The 27-year-old remains central to France’s attacking hopes as they head to North America.
France’s forward line also features Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Paris Saint-Germain’s Désiré Doué, Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, and Manchester City playmaker Rayan Cherki, who is set to make his World Cup debut after an impressive breakthrough season.
Defensively, Arsenal’s William Saliba, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano are included in a strong backline, while N’Golo Kanté returns as one of the few survivors from the 2018 World Cup-winning squad.
Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan, Robin Risser, Brice Samba.
Defenders: Lucas Digne, Malo Gusto, Lucas Hernandez, Theo Hernandez, Konaté, Maxence Lacroix, Koundé, Saliba, Upamecano.
Midfielders: Kanté, Manu Koné, Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Warren Zaïre-Emery.
Forwards: Maghnes Akliouche, Bradley Barcola, Cherki, Dembélé, Doué, Olise, Mbappé, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Marcus Thuram.
Deschamps’ squad blends experience and youth as France aim to build on their recent dominance in international football and challenge for another World Cup title before the coach’s departure.
