Uba Sani has called on pharmacists to rigorously protect their profession from quack practitioners in order to safeguard public health and strengthen the healthcare delivery system.

He gave the charge during the public presentation of a book held in commemoration of the 70th birthday of Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora, a renowned pharmacist, at Hotel 17 in Kaduna.

The governor, who was represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Professor Bello Ayuba, also emphasized the need for stronger oversight across other health-related professions to improve overall service delivery in the sector.

Describing the celebrant as a towering figure in pharmacy, the governor said Prof. Mora’s contributions would remain enduring and impactful. He praised the book titled “Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora: A Pillar of Pharmacy Regulation in Nigeria”, noting that it preserves the legacy of an academic giant for future generations.

He commended the authors for documenting the life and achievements of Prof. Mora, highlighting over five decades of teaching, mentorship, and leadership in the pharmacy profession.

Speaking on his administration’s performance, Governor Sani said 255 Primary Healthcare Centres have been upgraded to Level 2 status across Kaduna State, ensuring at least one functional PHC in each ward.

He also noted the commissioning and operationalization of the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, which he said had been abandoned by previous administrations.

According to him, 15 general hospitals have been upgraded to strengthen secondary healthcare services, while health workers’ welfare has improved through the implementation of CONHESS and CONMESS salary structures.

On education, he said 62 new science secondary schools have been built, alongside the renovation of existing ones, leading to improved student performance in national examinations.

In agriculture, he stated that the government has distributed inputs to farmers, including free fertilisers to smallholder farmers for two consecutive years.

He added that the most significant achievement of his administration is the restoration of peace across the state, noting that no religious or communal clashes have been recorded in the past three years.

He said the improved security situation has enhanced mobility, boosted trade and investment, and encouraged economic activity across communities.

The governor further disclosed that the prevailing peace has enabled the execution of major projects, including mass transit bus and terminal developments, as well as skills acquisition centres in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samaru Kataf.
