The previous governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West, have been approved by the National Assembly screening committee to take part in the primary election in Kogi State on Monday.

The APC screening committee has cleared 17 candidates for the senatorial primaries across the three districts of the state, set for Monday.

Bello, whose qualification had been discussed recently, was officially cleared after his name was listed as number 13 among the approved candidates for the Kogi Central Senatorial District race.

The former governor is set to compete against Momoh Yusuf Obaro and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke for the party‘s nomination in the Kogi Central Senatorial District.

In Kogi West, incumbent Senator Sunday Karimi emerged as the consensus candidate after a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Governor Usman Ododo at the Government House in Lokoja.

Although six other aspirants, including former Senator Smart Adeyemi and Aro Bamidele, were also cleared by the committee, political observers believe Karimi remains the frontrunner following the consensus arrangement.
