In preparation for the general elections on April 20, 2023, the Nigeria Police Force has finished training 612 policemen from all six geopolitical zones in efficient methods of battling cultism, kidnapping, and electoral violence.
The Nigeria Police Force organized the training in conjunction with the consulting company Wan Diyos Limited. Renowned academics as well as retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police DIG Hashimu Ibrahim Argungu (Rtd.) served as resource persons for the training, which took place at six different locations in each of the six geopolitical zones.
The training workshop examined historical precedents as well as current problems and answers to the problems of cultism, kidnapping, and election violence. It took place between Saturday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, stressed that the training is important in light of the upcoming general elections to prepare officers to train their men on dynamic tactics to identify and eliminate threats to election security management. Baba holds the psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, FDC, and CFR certifications.
The IGP further guaranteed that the ongoing initiative of educating and retraining police officers in all facets of contemporary policing will continue even after the general elections of 2023.
The Inspector-General of Police instructed the trainees to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop toward better management of cultism, kidnapping, and election-related violence while also making sure that the knowledge cascades to other officers and men serving in their respective stations or units for a holistic approach to election security management during the general elections in 2023 for free, fair, credible, and acceptable elections.
