JUST IN: TAMBUWAL DECLARED WINNER OF SOKOTO SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT
By Aishat Momoh. O.
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, was named the winner of the election for the Sokoto South senatorial district on Sunday morning.
With a cumulative margin of 4,976, Tambuwal, the PDP candidate, defeated Danbaba Dambuwa, the senator who was already in office.
Tambuwal won with a total of 100,860 votes, according to the returning officer, Professor Abubakar Abdullahi Bagudo, who made the announcement of the results at around 11:55 on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in the Bodinga local government.
The candidate for the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ibrahim Danbaba, received a total of 95,884 votes, he added.
A report says that Tambuwal chose the PDP’s presidential nomination before he announced his resignation on the day of the primary in favor of another competitor and the ultimate nominee, Atiku Abubakar. Tambuwal had already served the two terms as governor of the state that were required by the state’s constitution.
Tambuwal, who previously served as a three-term member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Kebbe/Tambuwal federal seat and rose to become Speaker between 2011 and 2015, will, however, be returning to the National Assembly as a senator representing the Sokoto South senatorial district.
