The National Emergency Management Agency has received 181 Nigerian returnees from Tripoli, Libya, under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government.
The agency disclosed this in a post on its official X account on Tuesday, noting that the returnees were received by its Lagos Operations Office in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
According to NEMA, the returnees arrived on April 27, 2026, at about 20:13 hours at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, aboard an Air Buraq Airline flight.
The breakdown showed that 159 were adults, comprising 64 males and 95 females; 12 were children, including five males and seven females; while 10 were infants, made up of six males and four females.
The agency said officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation upon arrival to ensure proper record-keeping and support reintegration efforts.
It added that the returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, potable water, medical care, ambulance services, luggage handling, logistics support, as well as counselling and coordination services.
NEMA noted that the reception exercise was carried out in an orderly manner through effective collaboration among relevant stakeholders, ensuring the safe, dignified and humane return of the evacuees.
The development comes weeks after the agency, in partnership with the IOM, received another batch of 145 Nigerian returnees evacuated from Benghazi, Libya, in March as part of ongoing repatriation efforts.
