SECURITY: LAGOS POLICE PARADES 42 SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVERS 10 FIREARMS, OTHERS

The Lagos State Police Command, has paraded a total of 42 suspected cultist and also recovered a total of 10 firearms and other exhibit used during their criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, while briefing the press during the parade on Wednesday, said that the Police has commenced a battle to rid Lagos State, of all forms of cultism and other criminal activities in the state.

He also mentioned that the suspects that were paraded, are those operating around Ijora, Orile, Ebute-Metta and Ikorodu axis in the past two weeks stating that items recovered during the arrests includes, Locally made shot guns, fabricated semi-automatic pistols, one English made pistol, axes, cutlasses, daggers, knives, live cartridges, multiple charms and other firearms.

Idowu Owohunwa, also said during his last conference with police and field officers across the state, he identified cultism as an evolving crime threatening the internal security of the state.

“I laid out a new set of operational plans to frontally address the emerging threat. I reorganized the special unit of the command, zoned the state and with the support of the Inspector-General of Police, we fully equipped and gave a new orientation to the different special units.

“We sent them to our Area Commands, equip them and charge them to operate optimally not just to identify these cultists but to undertake intelligence-led operations such that the battle will be taken to the doorsteps of these so-called cultists.

“I am delighted to note that in the course of the intelligence-led anti-cultism operations, we have, as of today, arrested a total of 42 suspected cultists in operations carried out at Ijora, Orile, Ebute-Meta, and Ikorodu.” He said.

The CP also mentioned that the police realized that this suspected cultist have semi-automatic fabricated shot guns which were gotten from a network of persons while adding that investigation are ongoing into the case and it is not only focused on getting the networks but to also get the fabricators of this instruments.

He gave the criminal minded ones still out to terrorize the peace of the state an option to either change for the better and opt for other legitimate means of livelihood or have the Lagos State command to contend with.

He however, reassured Lagosians that the battle to rid the state off cultism and other Criminal activities has started as no form of violation will be tolerated.
