A 40-year-old woman named Funmilayo Aduloju was charged by the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday for allegedly biting another woman and hurting her as a result.

An accusation of assault was used to drag the defendant into court.

Inspector Johnson Okunade, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime on July 12 at around 8:30 p.m. in the Ekute neighborhood of Ado Ekiti, the state’s capital.

“The defendant bit Adetutu Abegunde when they were arguing, causing serious harm to her, then assaulted her.

“The offence contravened Section 185 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021,” he said.

Okunade pleaded with the judge to postpone the case so he could review the paperwork and gather his witnesses.

However, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the accusation brought against her, and her attorney, Mr. Opeyemi Esan, pleaded with the court to release the defendant on bond on the condition that she would not escape.

The defendant was given bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount, according to the Chief Magistrate’s decision, Mr. A.O. Adeosun.

The case was postponed by the chief magistrate until a hearing on August 3.
