The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has urged Nigerians to supply the police with useful information in the investigation into the death of rising rap artiste, Promise Oladimeji Aloba a.k.a. Mohbad.
In a couple of reactions on his verified ‘X’ handle, Adejobi said “The police and the government are aware of the case. The IGP has personally been briefed, and he has issued directives on the matter. I think the best we can do now is to work with the team and share useful information with them. Whoever is invited should cooperate with the police on this matter.”
“Anyone who is indicted in this case won’t go unpunished. Whatever it is, there must be investigation concluded and report forwarded for necessary action. If it’s on this mohbad matter, the matter is received due attention. Except there are hidden agendas that certain individuals want to use to cause unrest or incite the public against the government in Nigeria.”
Controversy has raged in social circles over the death of Mohbad with fingers pointing in several directions over the cause.
His partner Wunmi, had alleged that she had never witnessed the performer being “happy for a whole day.”
The late musician, according to Wunmi, was called an addict so that people would have a different opinion of him. On her Instagram account, @c33why, she uploaded a picture of the child she had with the musician.
She asserted that the former Marlian record signee had always been anxious, and she added that Liam, their now-five-month-old kid, had substantially exacerbated his anxiousness.
Also, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said the late musician was not poisoned in its custody.
After Mohbad’s death last Tuesday in an unclear circumstance, a video emerged showing the 27-year-old artiste crying on a hospital bed. Shortly after, some Nigerians accused the agency of poisoning the singer during his purported arrest and detention.
In the video, Mohbad claimed he was forced to consume a liquid substance, abused with the butt of a gun and was later asked to go home.
But NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the musician was never arrested nor detained by the agency.
Babafemi also shared a link by an online platform detailing the arrest of six people, two females, and four males, in the persons of Oniyide Azeez (Zinoleesky), Owoeye Michael and Abimbola Ogbe.
Others are Dominica Chinwe, Olaolohun Shubomi Mariam, and Ibrahim Alawo.
“This is an authentic account of the arrest and detention of some Malian artistes in Feb 2022, an incident that has now been twisted by purveyors of fake news to say Mohbad was poisoned or detained by the agency,” Babafemi tweeted.
“I hope, they’ll be bold enough to defend their claims when the hand of the law catches them.”
