
THREE CONFIRMED CASES OF CHOLERA RECORDED IN CROSS RIVER
Three confirmed cases of cholera have been recorded in Biase and Obubra local government areas of Cross River State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, confirmed the outbreak of the disease in the state in a statement released on Saturday.
The commissioner said impure water sources and unopened fruits are some of the factors that led to the outbreak
Ayuk said that a Response Committee has been put together by the Surveillance Unit and Logistic Management Coordinating Unit of the State Ministry of Health.
He said the committee will be positioned in the two LGAs to handle the drugs donated by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to contain the outbreak.
The commissioner added that an Emergency Operation Centre has been activated.
According to him, the State Epidemiologist, Dr Blessing Ekpenyong, who is equally the Incident Manager, will coordinate the process
Ayuk disclosed that the Local Government Area Rapid Response Team has already been deployed to affected wards for case investigation and line listing of reported cases in order to contain the spread of the disease.
He said, “We would like to urge members of the public to adhere strictly to all measures against the disease by avoiding impure drinking water, unripened fruits and contaminated foods
“The State Rapid Response Team will always be on hand for deployment to any affected area should new cases be reported.”
