NCoS URGES NIGERIANS TO AVOID DISCRIMINATING AGAINST EX-INMATES
According to the Nigerian Correctional Service, ex-inmates underwent reform during their time in custody, which is why Nigerians should refrain from treating them unfairly.
Abubakar Umar, the NCoS spokesperson, informed our correspondent of this on Friday.
If given the chance, Umar stated, the ex-offenders will give back to society because they were reformed via various skill acquisition and training programs while housed in custodial facilities.
He stated, “The Service has improved inmates’ welfare through adequate provision of their needs as well as ensuring their effective reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration.
“This is exemplified at the last Abuja International Trade Fair where products made by inmates were displayed and heralded as highly qualitative.
“The Service hereby requests the general public to support her by accepting ex-offenders as they are now changed persons. The general public is requested to refrain from any act of stigmatization as it further endangers the society.”
Umar added that the service would still sustain the zero jailbreak it recorded in 2023, adding that tight security had been placed on all its facilities across the country.
