SIX ALMAJIRIS KILLED AS IED MISTAKEN FOR SCRAP METAL EXPLODES
An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in the Borno State local government area, killing six Quranic school students—known as Almajirai in Hausa—in a terrible accident.
Yesterday’s event happened when a metal scavenger inadvertently gathered and stashed a variety of metallic objects in a building near a Tsangaya school.
Regretfully, the scavenger had no idea that among the metal that had been gathered was an undetonated IED that had been abandoned. At around 2:00 pm, the IED exploded, killing the children and seriously injuring others.
A journalist, who spoke with a security source, confirmed the devastating blast and gave images of the graphic sight, but all attempts to obtain confirmation from security services regarding the incident remained fruitless.
