The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Wednesday announced key Federal Government interventions aimed at easing financial pressure on airline operators amid rising aviation fuel costs.
Keyamo disclosed the measures after a high-level meeting with officials from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, airline operators, and oil marketers, convened to address concerns over the soaring price of Jet A1 fuel.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a discount on certain outstanding fees owed by airlines to the Federal Government as part of immediate relief measures to prevent disruptions in air transport services.
According to the minister, the intervention is designed to stabilise the aviation sector and ensure continued operations despite mounting operational costs.
Keyamo also revealed that the President will, in the coming days, set up a special committee to review and streamline multiple taxes and levies currently embedded in airfares.
He noted that the planned review aims to reduce the financial burden on both airline operators and passengers, while enhancing the long-term sustainability of the aviation industry.
The development follows growing concerns within the sector over the rising cost of Jet A1 fuel, which operators have described as unsustainable and a major threat to aviation stability in the country.
