LASG URGES NIESV TO SUPPORT BUILD RIGHT CRUSADE
The Lagos State Government has urged the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) to support the Build Right crusade and promote a sustainable built environment.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Oluwole Sotire, made this known during a courtesy call by the body to the Ministry on Tuesday.
The Permanent Secretary said that one of the ways in which NIESV could support the sustainable built environment drive of Lagos State was to decline to engage in the valuation of any property without the necessary approvals, including a planning permit and a Certificate of Fitness for Habitation.
He said that such a move, if emulated by all professional bodies in the sector, would send a strong signal to all property owners and developers about the danger of building illegally.
His words are, “We need to work together for a livable, organized, and sustainable physical environment where people intending to erect buildings will be guided by our Planning Information service and all physical planning requirements, including planning permits, renovation and remodeling permits, layout approval, demolition permits, and certificates of fitness for habitation.”
He stressed that adherence to physical planning procedures would help in maintaining the sanctity of the Operative Development Plans (Master Plans, Model City Plans, and Lower Order Plans), developed by the Ministry to ensure the seamless and orderly development of the state.
While presenting the 50th anniversary book of his association, the Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Lagos State Chapter, ESV. Olugbenga Salami, commended the state government’s investment in physical development plans and pledged his association’s support for the endeavor.
