A former chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti State, Ayodele David-Adesua, has resigned from the party and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
David-Adesua, who contested as an ADC governorship aspirant in 2018 and 2026, is now seeking the PDP’s senatorial ticket for Ekiti North Senatorial District.
In a resignation letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to the ADC Chairman of Ijesa Isu Ward 7 in Ikole Local Government Area, he said his decision was final and aligned with his political ambitions. He formally announced his immediate exit from the party, citing his membership registration details.
He noted that he had made significant contributions to the party’s development at ward, local government, state, and national levels during his time in the ADC, including securing office spaces across all 12 wards in Ikole LGA and providing financial support for party activities.
Sources close to him indicated that his move to the PDP is aimed at actualising his ambition to represent Ekiti North in the Senate. Confirming the defection, David-Adesua said the decision was driven by his commitment to better serve his constituents and deliver democratic dividends, stressing the need for a more viable political platform.
The defection comes amid ongoing political realignments in Ekiti State as preparations intensify for the June 20, 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
