UPDATE: SAIDU FLAYS KIDNAP OF TWO NORTHERNERS IN RIVERS
Arewa leader in the South Alhaji Musa Saidu has expressed worries with the recent kidnap of two prominent members of the northern community in Rivers state.
Saidu who condemned the development said the incidents were really disturbing, noting that the kidnap cases occured within a space of two weeks.
He said the northern community in the state was elated that those allegedly kidnapped came out alive.
He further appealed to the Rivers state government and security agencies to protect the northern community, stressing that the situation was disturbing.
He also enjoined security agencies to invite a northern leader in the state for questioning over the kidnap incidents, recalling that they had written to security agencies in the past to conduct thorough investigation on the said leader.
Saidu also said leadership of the northern community in the state and the South also visited a former commander of a security body in the state to enjoin him to be mindful of who they deploy men to provide escort for.
“Some northerners have being kidnapped in Rivers state in the last two weeks . We are calling on the federal and the state government to protect our people. And their businesses. We are living in fear, we don’t know who is the next target.They have kidnapped two of our people within two weeks.
“I must speak for my people as the leader of the northerners in the South. We have drawn attention of security agencies to a particular northerner in the state that some security agencies are providing security escort for, we are worried. We have asked that the person be thoroughly investigated. We don’t know who is the next target, so we are crying to the world. We don’t know where this trouble is coming from.
“We have also visited a security agency in the state to let us know conditions under which they deploy men to provide escort for anybody. We see their men providing security for a northerner in the state we had said should be investigated by security operatives.”, he said.
