ARMY CHIEF SWEARS TO ELIMINATE ZAMFARA BANDIT LEADER TURJI
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji in Zamfara State will be captured or killed soon.
Oluyede made this declaration on Thursday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, during a briefing with journalists at the Headquarters of Operation Hadarin Daji.
He stated that the wanted terrorist has been evading capture and should continue to flee, emphasizing that the troops are fully dedicated to ensuring the security of Zamfara State.
“Bello Turji is on the run as we speak, and wherever he goes, we follow him. Let him keep running — it is just a matter of time before he is removed from the space,” the army chief said.
Oluyede also emphasized the Nigerian Army’s successes in the region, revealing that troops have eliminated several bandit leaders in recent months.
The army chief pointed out that the military is making significant efforts to enhance security and safeguard lives and property.
“We are pursuing them, and we intend to continue. It is the same with the fight against bandits. In the last few months, we have killed prominent bandit leaders like Samaila, Boga, and Boderi. All of them are dead.
“We will keep pursuing them to ensure the entire North-West is safe,” Oluyede said.
The army chief recognized the challenges encountered by troops in the operational area.
However, he expressed optimism that these challenges would be overcome.
Oluyede also urged Nigerians to support the army and other security agencies by sharing timely information.
His visit, which marks his first since being appointed on October 30, 2024, comes as troops persist in their efforts to combat banditry and other security threats in the North-West region.
