TANKER OVERTURNS, SPILLS FUEL ALONG OSHODI-GBAGADA EXPRESSWAY
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly averted a potential disaster on the Oshodi-Gbagada Expressway after a fully loaded tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned, spilling fuel across the main carriageway near TREM Church.
Acting promptly, LASTMA officials cordoned off the accident scene, preventing unauthorized fuel scooping and escalating the situation to the Lagos State Fire Service, which responded swiftly to contain the hazardous spill.
To ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow, LASTMA operatives diverted vehicles to the service lane from Oshodi-Oke inbound Gbagada, effectively mitigating congestion and minimizing the risk of ignition.
Commending the officers’ decisive response, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized that their proactive intervention prevented a catastrophe.
“The swift action of our personnel ensured the complete lockdown of the accident site, preventing any fuel scooping and averting what could have been a major disaster,” he stated.
He urged the public, especially motorists, to report road-related emergencies immediately via the agency’s toll-free hotline 080000527862 for a prompt response.
Motorists are also advised to exercise caution and comply with traffic and emergency authorities to prevent avoidable accidents on Lagos roads.
