KANO SET UP SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO PROBE UROMI KILLINGS
Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, established a special committee to look into the recent murders in Uromi, Edo State, and it has already left Kano for Edo.
Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the state deputy governor Aminu Gwarzo’s chief press secretary, made the announcement in a statement in Kano.
On Thursday, the committee headed by Gwarzo departed on a mission to gather information and promote peace.
Among other significant officials, the group consists of the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area, the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, and Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs.
In response to the nationwide outcry over the violent attacks in Uromi that resulted in numerous fatalities and the forced relocation of numerous citizens, including some from Kano State, the committee was established.
Gwarzo emphasized that the committee’s mission is to bring about justice, peace, and healing in a speech at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport prior to departing.
“Our mandate is clear — to investigate, to consult, and to recommend sustainable solutions. This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence,” Gwarzo said.
Tensions have increased in the impacted neighborhood as a result of the killings, which occurred last month.
During their week-long tour, the committee will meet with traditional leaders, security chiefs, civil society organizations, and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo as part of its mandate.
