An unidentified man was electrocuted on Wednesday morning while attempting to steal armoured electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat complex in Dutse.

According to a statement by Lawan Shiisu, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when security operatives were alerted and quickly responded to the scene.

Shiisu stated that upon arrival, officers discovered the man’s lifeless body beneath a concrete slab containing armoured cables connected to a high-voltage power source.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was electrocuted while trying to vandalize the cables.

“A team of policemen led by the divisional police officer of Dutse division responded to the call,” the statement read. “Upon arrival, the police officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab that contained armoured cables.”

The deceased’s body has been taken to the morgue for further examination.

Condemning the act, the police spokesperson warned the public against engaging in dangerous and illegal activities such as cable theft.

He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station.

“As the investigation progresses, the command will provide additional updates.” Shiisu added.
