TWO POLICE OFFICERS KILLED, CHINESE NATIONAL AND NIGERIAN ABDUCTED IN KWARA MINING SITE ATTACK

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of a Chinese national and a Nigerian worker following a deadly attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Gunmen reportedly stormed the mining facility, opening fire and killing two officers identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. The attackers also made away with the officers’ service rifles.
The assailants abducted two individuals during the attack — a Chinese expatriate, Mr. Sam Xie Wie, and a Nigerian, Mr. David Adenaiye, a native of Kogi State who was working at the site.
Condemning the attack, CP Ojo assured the public that a full-scale investigation and coordinated rescue operation had been launched. He stated that tactical and intelligence units are working in collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders to secure the release of the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts.
