Management of Jovina Hotel in Gboko, Benue State, has formally informed the French Embassy in Nigeria of the death of their national, Pietier Gilles, who was found dead in his sleep at the hotel on Sunday.

The 67-year-old tourist reportedly passed away while lodging at the hotel. The General Manager, Amema Cordial, confirmed in a telephone interview on Tuesday that the hotel’s chairman sent an official notification letter to the French Embassy through the Benue State Police Command on Monday.

“The chairman of the hotel had officially written a notification letter to the French Embassy in Nigeria through the Police Command informing them of the death of their national,” Cordial said.

She also revealed that Gilles appeared weak upon arrival at the hotel on Friday, having been brought there by a good Samaritan.

“He was already weak when he arrived at the hotel. My assistant told me that a good Samaritan led him to the hotel,” she explained.

When hotel staff advised him to seek medical attention, Gilles reportedly said his condition was due to not having eaten for the past five days.

Authorities are yet to release further details surrounding the circumstances of his death as investigations continue.
