The House of Representatives member representing Ado-Odo/Ota federal constituency, Engr. Tunji Akinosi, has pledged N700 million from the newly increased zonal intervention fund to tackle the deplorable conditions of schools within his constituency.

Akinosi disclosed this on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Ota, where he also praised President Bola Tinubu for increasing the zonal intervention fund from N200 million to N1 billion last December.

The lawmaker explained that despite federal and state government efforts, the large size of Ado-Odo/Ota—three times bigger than some constituencies—makes it challenging to adequately address its socio-economic needs with limited resources.

“Though our job is to make law, we have what is called capital project inclusion, which is supposed to be our zonal intervention fund. Previously, it was N200 million, but after lobbying President Tinubu, the fund was increased to N1 billion,” Akinosi said.

He revealed that from this fund, N700 million has been earmarked for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to quality education for the constituency’s youth.

Highlighting his legislative achievements, Akinosi noted that he has sponsored four bills, including one to establish a Federal Medical Centre at Atan-Ota to address healthcare shortages. He also cited infrastructural projects such as road construction, school renovations, and empowerment programs benefiting thousands of constituents.

During the engagement themed “Expectations From Our Representatives,” stakeholders called on both the state and federal governments to grant special status to Ado-Odo/Ota to help address its chronic infrastructural deficits.

Barr Kelubia Ajose, Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ota branch, lamented the constituency’s poor socio-economic development despite being the highest revenue generator for Ogun State. He urged political leaders to deliver on good governance and advocate for special recognition.

Psychologist and former University of Ibadan Student Union leader, Dr. Tokunbo Salako, also decried the dilapidated infrastructure, emphasizing that the constituency deserves more government support.

The Olota of Ota Kingdom, Oba Abdulkadir Obalanlege, praised Akinosi for fulfilling his campaign promises and encouraged other public officials to prioritize service above self for national progress.

Akinosi further urged Nigerians to maintain faith in President Tinubu’s economic reforms, expressing optimism that the nation will soon reap their benefits.
