The Oyo-based organization concluded the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season in eighth place, securing 15 victories, 9 draws, and 14 losses across 38 matches. Their disappointing performance has now led the club’s administration, headed by chairman Lekan Salami, to sever ties with the seasoned Ogunbote, the entire coaching staff, and General Manager Dimeji Lawal with immediate effect.
Before his exit, Ogunbote had been in charge of the Oluyole Warriors for two years and 11 months, having rejoined the team in August 2022 for the third occasion. Additionally, former player Dimeji Lawal, who held the position of general manager of the team, has been discharged from his responsibilities in advance of the 2025/26 season. Former coach Edith Agoye is being considered to return to the club to assume leadership once more.
Notwithstanding Ogunbote’s departure from the team, rumors and accounts suggest that he is among the candidates to assume the managerial position at Kano Pillars. The ex-coach of Enyimba, Remo Stars, Lobi Stars, and Sunshine Stars had initially rebuffed approaches from the Sai Masu Gida club earlier in the transfer period, emphasizing his intention to fulfill his current contract with Shooting Stars.
Subsequent to his departure from Shooting Stars, discussions are expected to recommence, and he may be officially announced in the forthcoming weeks if negotiations prove fruitful.
