President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the full payment of match bonuses and allowances for Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their final clash against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 24, 2025, by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who confirmed that all financial entitlements covering players, coaches, and officials have been disbursed up to and including the final match slated for July 26.
Dikko described the timely payment as a reflection of President Tinubu’s “policy in motion” and a testament to the administration’s renewed commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” he stated. “Timely payments without drama or delays will now be the new normal.”
In a further boost to Nigerian sports, Dikko revealed that the payment policy would also apply to D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, who are preparing for the 2025 FIBA Women AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
He noted that the proactive funding approach reflects broader reforms within the sports sector, adding that future generations will appreciate President Tinubu’s transformative efforts.
The Super Falcons are set to face hosts Morocco in what promises to be a high-stakes WAFCON final, with the team already receiving praise for their strong campaign and now, improved motivation from the federal government.
