BREAKING: TINUBU CONFERS NATIONAL HONOURS, N150M EACH, APARTMENTS ON VICTORIOUS SUPER FACLCONS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 members of the victorious Super Falcons team who won the Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday.

Additionally, President Tinubu also gifted each player and team official with 3-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

Each player will also get the Naira equivalent of $100,000 (about N150m) while each of the 11 officials will get equivalent of $50,000 (about N75m).
Also, the Nigerian Governors Forum also announced a gift of N10m each to the 24 players and 11 team officials.
On Saturday, the women’s national football team; the Super Falcons of Nigeria pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and claim their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
Trailing 2-0 early in the final, the Nigerian team showed grit and determination, clawing their way back into the game with relentless pressure and attacking flair.

Morocco opened the scoring early with Ghizlane Chebbak netting in the 12th minute, followed by a second from Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
But the Super Falcons roared back in the second half with a spirited performance that shifted the momentum.
Esther Okoronkwo began Nigeria’s comeback in the 64th minute with a well-taken penalty, and Folashade Florence Ijamilusi brought the game level just seven minutes later with a 71st-minute strike.
Jennifer Echegini then secured the dramatic victory with a late goal in the 88th minute, completing Nigeria’s stunning turnaround.
