MICHAEL JACKSON’S GLITTERY SOCK FROM 1990s CONCERT SOLD FOR OVER $8,000 IN FRANCE
Agency Report
A single glittery sock worn by the late pop icon Michael Jackson during a 1990s concert in France has been sold at auction for over $8,000, according to a French auctioneer.
The off-white sock, now stained and with yellowing rhinestones due to age, was described as a “cult object” for Jackson fans. “It really is an exceptional object even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” said auctioneer Illy.
Initially valued between €3,000 and €4,000 (approximately $3,400 to $4,500), the item was sold for €7,688 ($8,822) at the Nîmes auction house on Wednesday.
Michael Jackson memorabilia continues to attract significant interest globally. In 2009, a glittery glove worn during his first “moonwalk” in 1983 fetched $350,000 at auction. More recently, in 2023, a hat worn by the King of Pop just before that iconic performance was sold for over $80,000 in Paris.
Jackson, who died from a drug overdose in 2009 at the age of 50, remains one of the most influential and controversial figures in pop history. Despite long-standing allegations of child molestation denied by Jackson and his estate his global fan base and legacy remain strong.
