Marcus Rashford criticized Manchester United’s absence of direction as positioning the English powerhouses in “no man’s land” following his loan transfer to Barcelona.

The 27-year-old, who participated in 426 matches for United after progressing through the club’s academy, departed Old Trafford in January for a lending period at Aston Villa after losing favor with new manager Ruben Amorim.

United went on to have their worst season since being relegated in 1973/74 as they finished 15th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for European competition.

Rashford contends that the fundamental issue facing United stems from the inconsistency resulting from the appointment of six different managers since Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

“We have fallen significantly short of our standards for what United should represent, but when you take a moment to reflect, as I have over these past six months, what can you anticipate? ” Rashford remarked during the Rest Is Football podcast.

“When Liverpool encountered a similar situation, they acquired (Jurgen) Klopp and committed to him. They did not achieve immediate success. People primarily recall his last few years when he was battling with (Manchester) City and securing the most prestigious trophies.

“To initiate a transition, it is essential to formulate a strategy and adhere to it. This is no simple task. However, this is where I emphasize the importance of being pragmatic about one’s circumstances.

“We’ve experienced an overwhelming number of different managers, each bringing varying ideas and strategies for victory, which has ultimately left us in a state of limbo. ”

Since Ferguson’s exit, United has struggled to even contend for the Premier League title or the Champions League.

Rashford stands out as one of the few positive narratives for the Red Devils during this period.

After breaking into the team as an 18-year-old in 2016, he went on to score 138 goals for the club, winning two FA Cups and two League Cups.

Nonetheless, he contends that the victorious culture ingrained throughout Ferguson’s 27-year stewardship has diminished.

“When Ferguson was at the helm, there existed not only principles for the first team but also for the entire academy,” Rashford elaborated.

“Any team that has achieved success over an extended duration upholds principles which require any coach or player who joins to either conform to or enhance those principles.

“At certain instances, United demonstrated a strong desire to succeed… but it was often reactive. If your trajectory is continually shifting, you cannot anticipate winning the league. ”

Rashford appears to have played his last game for United with his move to Spanish champions Barca containing a option to buy for a reported 35 million euros (£30 million, $41 million).
