European champions Paris Saint-Germain began the new season in style, clinching their first-ever UEFA Super Cup title with a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Tottenham Hotspur after a last-gasp comeback secured a 2-2 draw in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday.

Tottenham, playing their first competitive match under new coach Thomas Frank, appeared on course for victory after Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 39th minute and Cristian Romero doubled the lead three minutes into the second half.

However, PSG’s substitutes turned the tide late on. Lee Kang-in pulled one back in the 85th minute before Goncalo Ramos headed in the equaliser deep into stoppage time.

The shoot-out began poorly for PSG when Vitinha missed their first effort, but new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier denied Van de Ven, and Mathys Tel’s miss for Spurs set the stage for Nuno Mendes to bury the winning kick.

Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro scored for Spurs, while Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, Lee, and Mendes converted for PSG.

The victory marks PSG’s fifth trophy of 2025 and gives Luis Enrique’s side a perfect start to the campaign, coming just a month after their FIFA Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

PSG open their Ligue 1 title defence against Nantes on Sunday, while Tottenham host Burnley in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
