The Nigeria Police Force has announced major breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping and gun running, with the rescue of a victim, arrest of eight suspects, and recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition in separate operations across Kaduna and Delta States.
In Kaduna, operatives launched a rescue mission after the abduction of one Hussaini Ibrahim from Jagindi Tasha village, Jema’a LGA. The victim was abandoned by his abductors in a forest, while four suspects, Umar Yusuf Jabiri, Buhari Muhammad a.k.a. General, Ahmadu Nasiru, and Zakari Saleh, were arrested. Recovered from them were an AK-47 rifle and two locally fabricated rifles.
Also in Kaduna, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted a suspicious waybill from Jos, Plateau State, to Gusau, Zamfara State. A concealed AK-47 rifle was discovered in a sack. Two suspects, Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa, were arrested while attempting to take delivery of the firearm.
In Delta, the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), supported by X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol units, stormed a hideout along Ibusa Road. A 42-year-old suspected kidnap kingpin, Chiadiji Collins, a.k.a. Smooth, linked to multiple abductions in the Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and Asaba axis, was apprehended. A search of his residence in Ewulu community, Aniocha South LGA, yielded an AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of live ammunition. Another suspect, Ezechie Andrew, was arrested with two pump-action guns and cartridges.
Police said all suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations to track down other members of their gangs. They will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the professionalism and tactical precision of the operatives, stressing the Force’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and community partnership.
