SIX KILLED IN SUSPECTED CULT-RELATED VIOLENCE IN IKORODU COMMUNITIES

At least six people have been killed in suspected cult-related violence across two communities in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Five bodies were recovered along the riverbank in Oreta, Igbogbo, on Wednesday, while another man was gruesomely murdered in Bayeku on Tuesday, sparking fear among residents.
Community members said that the Bayeku victim’s wrist and leg were severed in the attack. While some linked the incident to cult clashes, others suggested it may have been connected to land disputes.
In Oreta, residents said police operatives visited the scene after five corpses were discovered by the riverside. “Some people are saying the water brought them, but we don’t believe so. The cause of death is still unknown,” a resident, Adeola, said.
A short video shared by Naija Confra, a channel that documents cult activities, showed some of the corpses, including a victim in a blue hoodie and another in a black-and-white shirt lying motionless in blood.
Confirming the incidents, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hammed Aroyewun, condemned the killings as “painful and unacceptable,” describing them as a direct affront to peace in the community.
He assured residents that the council, working with security agencies, would intensify patrols and bring perpetrators to justice. “Our people deserve to live in peace and without fear. Every necessary resource will be deployed to restore safety,” Aroyewun said in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Oluwaseun Ajayi.
The latest violence follows another cult-related clash earlier in the week on Lagos Island, where three suspected cultists were killed during a festival, with videos showing heavy gunfire exchanged between rival groups.
As of press time, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had yet to respond to calls or messages regarding the Ikorodu incidents.
