Lagos State has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising a government barricade at Obalende Roundabout, one of the state’s busiest traffic points.

Those arrested have been identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.

Confirming the development in a statement on X, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said: “All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant law of the state. We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State.”

The incident adds to a series of enforcement actions recently carried out by authorities to curb vandalism and maintain order across the state.

Earlier this year, several youths were also apprehended in Ojota and Ikeja for damaging traffic signs and obstructing roads.

The state government has continued to intensify efforts to protect civic infrastructure, particularly at high-traffic areas and commercial hubs.

It has also urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting acts of vandalism or any activities that threaten public safety.

Reaffirming the state’s stance, Wahab added: “We are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Lagos remains safe and conducive for all residents and visitors.”
