NPFL: BOSSO SETS SIGHTS ON MORE WINS AFTER BREAKTHROUGH VICTORY OVER BARAU FC

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

Achieving their inaugural victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after five matches may have felt akin to a championship pursuit for Barau FC of Kano.

The Kano-based team secured a decisive 3-1 triumph in Aba against fellow top-flight league newcomer, Khun Khalifat, during a Matchday 6 encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium, the designated home venue of the Owerri-based club.

However, their experienced Coach, Ladan Bosso, is not inclined towards celebration as he concentrates on solidifying the club’s newfound winning momentum.

In a post-match press conference, Bosso commenced by praising the players for their resilient performance away from home.

“Actually, I am so happy with the result. Our players all did well to secure this victory,” Bosso conveyed to the media.

He then redirected his focus to the team’s responsibility of maintaining the winning mentality in upcoming matches, stating, “It is very important that the team builds on this performance, remain focused, and prepare strongly for our next home fixture against Warri Wolves.”

The hosts took the lead shortly after 14 minutes, but Barau quickly responded just two minutes later through forward Yahya Ibrahim, who equalized with an impressive finish from Sai’du Salisu’s exceptional assist.

Midfielder Hilary Ekawu subsequently propelled the Maliya Boys (as Barau FC is affectionately referred to by their supporters) ahead in the 64th minute, converting from Bismark’s accurate cross, before Yahya Ibrahim extended the advantage with his second goal of the match, following a superb pass from Sugau Aliyu.

Yahya Ibrahim’s brace elevated his tally to three goals in the NPFL for the 2025/2026 season.

Despite the victory and the acquisition of three points, Barau FC remains entrenched in the relegation zone, positioned 18th on the league table with five points from five matches.

They are set to host Warri Wolves on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Sani Abacha Stadium during NPFL Matchday seven.
