The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered over ₦446 billion and restrained more than ₦142 billion in forfeiture, alongside ₦30 billion in cash, within one month.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during the Monthly National Joint Security Briefing held in Abuja on Monday.

According to Issa-Onilu, the commission recorded significant anti-corruption milestones in September, including the recovery of ₦446 billion and securing restraining orders on an additional ₦173 billion pending forfeiture.

“During the period under review, the ICPC received 19 petitions through both physical and digital channels. Out of 33 cases assigned for investigation, nine were successfully investigated, and three convictions were secured,” he said.

The NOA boss added that the ICPC also intensified public engagement, conducting 77 sensitisation workshops and conferences that reached 41,922 individuals, including state Attorneys-General.

In a bid to strengthen institutional accountability, the commission conducted corruption risk assessments and inaugurated eight Anti-Corruption Transparency Units across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

Issa-Onilu further noted that the ICPC’s media and outreach campaigns expanded significantly, with 1,650 social media engagements, four episodes of its weekly TV programme Transparency Files, and 27 indigenous-language outreach programmes. The commission also issued 12 news releases that received 121 media mentions nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, has called for faster and more consistent adjudication of corruption cases to reinforce the country’s anti-graft efforts. Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for judicial officers at the National Judicial Institute, he emphasised the critical role of the judiciary in ensuring that “corruption does not pay and that those found guilty do not benefit from the proceeds of crime.”
