Agency Report

Two Nigerians have been arrested by Libyan security operatives for alleged possession of commercial quantities of hard drugs, including hashish and hallucinogenic pills, which were reportedly ready for distribution.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a post on X by migrant monitoring platform Migrant Rescue Watch.

According to the report, the suspects, who were undocumented migrants, were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in Zliten.

“CID in Zliten arrested two undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking. The individuals were found in possession of quantities of hashish and hallucinogenic pills ready for distribution,” the statement read.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

This incident adds to a growing list of cases involving Nigerians arrested in Libya for alleged drug peddling.

It was earlier reported on July 10 that the country’s Counter-Terrorism Forces arrested two Nigerians over similar offences.

Observers have expressed concern that such cases further tarnish Nigeria’s image internationally and highlight the risks faced by undocumented migrants involved in illegal activities abroad.
