Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named strikers Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams in the starting lineup for a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Benin national football team in Uyo.

The duo impressed in Nigeria’s last outing against Lesotho national football team, combining for the team’s second goal after Adams came off the bench to finish a move created by Osimhen. Their promising link-up has earned them a starting spot in what is being described as a make-or-break fixture for Nigeria.

Captain William Troost-Ekong starts on the bench, with Wilfred Ndidi wearing the armband. In defence, Zaidu Sanusi returns to the lineup alongside Benjamin Fredrick, Calvin Bassey, and Semi Ajayi.

Ndidi will anchor the midfield with Alex Iwobi, while Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon provide attacking width on the flanks.

Nigeria must defeat their West African rivals to keep their qualification hopes alive. Even with a win, the team will be relying on South Africa national football team dropping points against Rwanda national football team to secure automatic qualification.
