ENGLAND CRUISE INTO 2026 WORLD CUP WITH 5–0 LATVIA ROUT
England sealed their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 5–0 victory over Latvia on Tuesday night.
Harry Kane led the charge with two goals, while Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze and an own goal from Maksims Tonisevs completed the rout in Riga.
Gordon opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a fine curling effort before Kane struck twice in quick succession before halftime to extend England’s lead. Latvia’s misery deepened in the second half when Tonisevs turned the ball into his own net, and substitute Eze capped off the performance with a solo goal late on.
The result means England have won all six of their World Cup qualifying matches under new manager Thomas Tuchel, maintaining a perfect defensive record without conceding a goal.
Tuchel praised his players after the match, describing qualification as a proud moment for the team and the fans. Despite leaving out stars like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden for this window, his rotation choices have been justified by strong performances across the squad.
With two qualifying matches left to play, England have already guaranteed top spot in their group and will head to the 2026 World Cup in North America as one of the early favourites.
