DATING SITE TURNS DEADLY: POLICE NAB KIDNAPPERS IN RIVERS
The Rivers State Police Command has reported the apprehension of two infamous abductors in their concealed location within the Egwi community of the Etche Local Government Area.
According to police statements, the perpetrators deceived their victim via a dating platform before her capture, subsequently demanding a ransom of ₦200,000 from her family.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, made this announcement in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Iringe-Koko revealed that the two individuals, both 25 years old, were apprehended following a thorough investigation conducted by operatives from the Command’s specialized unit.
During questioning, the suspects admitted to their wrongdoing and detailed the method by which they ensnared the young woman.
The statement indicated, “Acting on actionable intelligence on September 22, 2025, operatives from the Special Operations and Intelligence Team mobilized, tracking the suspects to their hideout in Egwi, Etche, around 22:00 hours and successfully apprehended the two individuals. ”
The Rivers State Police Command executed a bold operation, capturing two alleged kidnappers implicated in the abduction of a 24-year-old woman (name withheld) on September 21, 2025, at approximately 20:30 hours in Igbo Etche.
The names of the apprehended suspects were provided as Ifeanyi Chukwu Alozie, hailing from Okomoko in the Etche Local Government Area and residing on Ndimasi Farm Road, Igbo Etche; and Miracle Nwimene, from Zakpo in the Khana Local Government Area and residing at Umuagagu Etche.
The statement further noted, “In the initial interrogation, both individuals confessed to their participation in the crime, admitting that they enticed the victim via a dating site to Igbo Etche, where she was subsequently abducted.
“Despite facing mounting pressure from our relentless pursuit, the kidnappers managed to extort a ransom of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000) from her relatives prior to her release.
“The suspects are presently in police custody, with investigations ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other accomplices who remain at large. The victim has been debriefed and reunited with her family. ”
Meanwhile, State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has praised the courage and commitment exhibited by the operatives in capturing the suspects.
Adepoju reassured the public of the Command’s dedication to ensuring their safety and security while advising citizens to exercise caution when participating in online dating, emphasizing the inherent risks associated with such platforms.
In a related incident, the Bauchi State Police Command has detained six suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims from Euga village within the Toro Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, reported that the operation commenced following a distress signal received on September 29, 2025, from a member of the community.
