A 400-level student of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Daniel Nnam, has emerged winner of the 2025 essay competition organised by the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) Public Relations Roundtable, taking home a cash prize of N250,000.

The competition, themed “Digitisation and Self-Service: A Mission to Improve Service Delivery in Nigeria,” was held as part of activities marking UNILAG’s 2025 International Customer Service Week celebration at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall, Akoka.

Over 200 entries were submitted by students across various departments, with 40 advancing to the semi-final stage and 10 finalists selected for the final round of presentations.

Nnam’s essay was adjudged the best for its originality, clarity, and practical insights on how digital innovation and self-service platforms can transform customer service in Nigeria.

Presenting the award, Professor Olufemi Saibu, Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM at UNILAG, commended the participants for their creativity and critical thinking, noting that the initiative was designed to build students’ communication skills and confidence in addressing national issues.

In his remarks, Nnam expressed appreciation to the organisers and his lecturers for their support. He dedicated the win to UNILAG students, encouraging his peers to embrace digital innovation and continue striving for excellence.

The organisers described the essay competition as a platform to foster innovation and research-driven ideas among Nigerian undergraduates, in line with global trends in service efficiency and technology adoption.
