NSA, SERVICE CHIEFS MEET AMID TRUMP’S THREAT OF MILITARY ACTION IN NIGERIA
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Monday held an emergency meeting with service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies following recent comments by former United States President Donald Trump suggesting possible U.S. military action in Nigeria.
The closed-door meeting, held at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in Abuja, was convened to review the security situation and assess Nigeria’s response to the escalating diplomatic tension.
According to sources, discussions focused on strengthening national security coordination, assessing intelligence reports, and formulating a unified response strategy to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting comes amid heightened concerns after Trump claimed that the U.S. military was preparing for possible intervention over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The statement has drawn widespread reactions and increased pressure on Nigerian authorities to respond firmly.
Security officials at the meeting reportedly evaluated existing contingency plans and discussed measures to reinforce inter-agency communication and external relations in light of the development.
Nigeria’s government has repeatedly dismissed claims of systemic religious persecution, insisting that the country’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion for all citizens.
An official statement from the Office of the National Security Adviser is expected to be released soon to clarify Nigeria’s position and outline the next steps in its diplomatic and security response.
